Microsoft will take the wraps off the consumer preview of Windows 8 on February 29 in Barcelona

Posted in Uncategorized on February 8th, 2012 by admin

Microsoft will take the wraps off the consumer preview of Windows 8 on February 29 in Barcelona, a key milestone on the path toward launching the new operating system.

The consumer preview is the name Microsoft has given the beta version of the operating system. The company said in December it would launch the beta by late February.

Microsoft sent out invitations this morning to press to attend the “Windows 8 Consumer Preview.” And while the invitation doesn’t say anything about the debut of the preview itself, it stands to reason that it will coincide with the event.

iPhone 5 Available by June 20?

Posted in iphone 5 on March 29th, 2011 by Tpack

This one’s a stretch, but bear with me for a second. Recently Apple marketing honcho Phil Schiller confirmed through his verified Twitter account that a white iPhone will be available “this spring.” He called it a ”beauty” without mentioning the white iPhone 4 per se. Some folks think it’s highly unlikely that Apple’s bothering with white iPhone 4 this late in the game. If Schiller was referring to the white iPhone 5, he then inadvertently slipped us a time frame for the iPhone 5 launch.  Read more

Apple iPad, other tablets, blunt Q4 PC sales

Posted in Uncategorized on January 14th, 2011 by admin

Computerworld - Tablets like Apple’s iPad are taking a toll on an already battered PC market.

Largely echoing an IDC report released Wednesday, Gartner researchers said fourth quarter PC sales were weaker than expected. The research firm lays the blame at the feet of a burgeoning tablet business.

“Overall, holiday PC sales were weak in many key regions due to the intensifying competition in consumer spending,” said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner, in a statement. “Media tablets, such as the iPad, as well as other consumer electronic devices, such as game consoles, all competed against PCs.”

Mac OS X 10.6.6 Adds Bug Fixes, Alongside Mac App Store

Posted in Uncategorized on January 6th, 2011 by admin

The big news of Mac OS X 10.6.6’s release is clearly the Mac App Store, but that’s not the only change that came in the latest version of Snow Leopard. In addition, Apple nipped a pair of bugs and closed a security hole.

Apple notes exactly two fixes in its release notes for 10.6.6: one that fixes a cropping problem with some PostScript printing in landscape mode and another that resolves an issue with ATI graphics card-powered Macs where connecting an external DVI display could yield erratic mouse pointer movement.
